Bioindustry 4.0 Co-design workshop IoT: Data Integration from the lab

The stakeholder workshop on IoT: Data integration from the lab took place on October 23rd, 2025 from 10:00-12:00 (CET). This two-hour workshop brought together experts and stakeholders to explore how laboratory data can be better integrated, managed, and applied using Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. The purpose of this event was to foster dialogue on the opportunities but also the challenges of IoT data acquisition within laboratory environments, exploring how connected equipment and sensors can transform data collection, analysis, and decision-making processes.

Workshop themes:

  1. Digital twins and data strategy: Data collection practices, opportunities, challenges, and desired improvements including understanding the value proposition of increased data collection. Why do we need data, and what can we do with it? What benefits and/or bottlenecks do stakeholders experience?
  2. Laboratory-side implementation: Current laboratory equipment inventory and connectivity status including on-site infrastructure and connectivity requirements. What equipment do stakeholders use, and what’s missing? What are labs missing (alerts, AI/ML applications, predictive tools)?
  3. Digital-side implementation: Current practices, missing capabilities, needs & opportunities identification including software solutions and data processing. What are current methods and what are some future possibilities? What becomes possible through increased data acquisition and integration?
